THE HONEYMOON IN JAMAICA 2003

So just how was the honeymoon? Well, fantastic and the best holiday I have ever been on to say the least and we both made a mini "daily diary" to remember the event.......

Tuesday 12th August 11:15 AM

Now waiting in a posh airport suite, waiting for our flight at 12:30. We are drinking free spirits from the self service bar, all complimentary! As well as some nice food, just waiting for our flight number to be called now....

We paid an extra £15 to get this suite, and it was really worth it, a lot more luxury than the ordinary airport departure lounges, and complimentary showers aswell. The suite was the Alexandra Suite.

Tuesday 12th August 11:50 PM
Flight was fine, just about 9hrs in the end. I sat next to someone that after chatting to them realised it was an old school friend from around 8 years ago.
The 2hr drive from the airport to Ocho Rios was scary to say the least.
The overtakes and complete disregard for road safety made it a laugh. We finally arrived 20:30, (1:30am UK time) feeling quite shattered. We were welcomed to the hotel by cold face towels and champagne! what a start.

Wednesday 13th August.
Woke to a beautiful sunrise, Had the "Orientation tour" and got to know our whereabouts. Spent most of the morning and early afternoon on the beach. We were also booking up our excursions for the 2weeks, costing nearly 1000 dollars! still its our honeymoon so its well worth it!
Helen managed to get sun burnt today, so lets hope that gets better not worse!
Best excursion booked up so far, is a swimming with dolphins trip, where you really do get to swim with them. Also found the free ice cream machine too!

Thursday 14th August.
Had another lazy day by the pool / sea today. Worked on the tan, then in the evening we had a local singer called Dean Stevens, he was really good, and had the whole hotel up in a partying atmosphere. We also played giant chess, and I had to teach Helen how to play however I'm not quite sure my rules were right!.We found a couple of pool tables in the games room, so were able to play that for a while.
Also went for drinks in the piano bar, where the bartender kept making weird noises and sounded like a sink! brrrrrrrp, brrrrrrrp!

Saturday 16th August.
Had to get up early today, our bus left for Chukka Cove at 8am. We got to the horses at about 9.30, and there were about 16 of us from local hotels. We saddled up and got our horses, mine was called Dark Eagle. The ride to the beach lasted about 1hr, where we stopped for Rum punch, with plenty of rum!
We then took to the water, bareback with no saddle! This was a great experience, the horses went right under with the water up to their ears.
Monday night was the poolside buffet, all the restaurants close, for lots of excellent self serve food by the pool. This was very nice, with ice sculptures and a singer on a platform raised just above the pool. This was definitely the best meal so far.
Sunday 17th August

This morning we participated in snorkeling, which began by a small intro in the swimming pool. We then were taken by boat out to the snorkel location. Luckily there were 4 nursing sharks that we managed to swim with. In the afternoon we took out a kayak, for a small tour around the Island... its actually more tiring than I imagined.
There was also a saxophonist playing on the pier this evening, that could be heard throughout the bay.

Monday 18th August

Early start today, we were up and headed out for the blue mountain tour at 8.20!
This started by a 2hr bus trip around several significant island spots, including a local banana plantation. Then started the 5000ft climb up the actual blue mountain, which was a scary combination of steep sharp turns, and very narrow paths and bridges. There were many locals greeting us as we ascended, living in a very primitive manor.
Upon eventually reaching the top, we started our bike hill decent, on some very old rickety bikes. We managed the 3000ft downhill ride, stopping for photos and lunch on the way. This was rounded off by a swim in the crystal clear waterfull at the bottom of the mountain.
